On occasion a Kixie phone number may start showing as "spam likely" to the people you call. Kixie uses several methods to keep numbers clean, but sometimes the best option is to replace the number. The Kixie Numbers page has a feature that swaps one number for a new one while keeping everything attached to it, such as the agent or group it belongs to.
Finding Which Numbers to Replace
Sign in to the Kixie Dashboard and go to Manage > Numbers > Kixie Numbers. At the top of that page is a Number Health panel showing how your numbers are rated overall, the percentage considered spam, and a breakdown per carrier.
Click the column header for any carrier column (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T) to sort by whether that carrier considers the number spam. That tells you which numbers are worth replacing.
How to Replace a Number
- On the sidebar, click Manage.
- Click Numbers, then Kixie Numbers.
- Find the number you want to replace.
- Scroll to the right of that number's row.
- Click the dropdown in the Actions column.
- Click Replace Number.
A window opens and asks whether you want to keep the old number indefinitely or delete it after a set period. The options are 2, 4 or 6 weeks, or keep it permanently. The grace period exists because your contacts may still be calling the old number for a while.
Once you choose and click Proceed, the system searches for a new available number in the same or a nearby area code and purchases it, then moves the old number's settings across to it.
Common Questions
How does it choose the new number?
It looks at the area code of the number being replaced and searches for a new one in the same area code, or an adjacent one, so your local presence is preserved. If nothing suitable is available, it cancels rather than buying a number unlike the one you are replacing.
What happens to the old number?
If you set a retention period, the number is removed from your account and your bill once it elapses. If you keep it permanently, it stays in your pool and can be used again later if its reputation recovers.
Can I replace several numbers at once?
Not currently. Replace Number works on one number at a time, so each replacement gets its own retention choice.
Before You Replace
Replacing a number is not always the first thing to try. See Showing Up as Spam Likely or Scam Likely for the other options, including registering the number with the Free Caller Registry. If the numbers showing as spam are ConnectionBoost numbers rather than your own, see Why Are My ConnectionBoost Numbers Showing as Spam?, because those come from a shared pool and cannot be replaced this way.
